On 23–24 December 2025, the Association for Emancipation, Solidarity and Equality of Women (ESE), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), organized a training for police officers aimed at strengthening their capacities to act in cases of gender-based and domestic violence. The training was organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening Access to Justice for Women Survivors of Domestic Violence”, implemented by ESE with the financial support of the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation from Sweden.

This was the second training delivered to the same group of police officers nominated by the Ministry of Interior in 2024, namely one police inspector and two uniformed police officers from the Sectors for Internal Affairs in Skopje, Veles, Kumanovo, Shtip, Strumica, Tetovo, Bitola, and Ohrid. The training was delivered by practitioners with extensive experience in handling cases and in building the system for protection from domestic violence: Katina Pavlovska, Clinical Psychologist at ESE’s Counseling Center for Victims of Domestic Violence; Cena Chalovska, former Police Advisor at the Ministry of Interior; and Gabriela Gajdova, Judge at the Skopje Court of Appeal.

Regarding the content, the training covered the following components:

  • Identification of different forms of domestic violence, their nature and characteristics;

  • Legal competences of the police within the civil-law protection system;

  • The role of the police in criminal proceedings related to gender-based and domestic violence.
