In the period 30-31 March 2026, ESE, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, organized a training for police officers aimed at improving their capacities for handling cases of gender-based and domestic violence. The training was organized within the project “Enhance Access to Justice for Women Who Suffered Domestic Violence,” implemented by ESE with financial support from the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation from Sweden.

This was the third consecutive training for the same group of 24 nominated police officers, including police inspectors and uniformed police officers from the Sectors for Internal Affairs in Skopje, Veles, Kumanovo, Shtip, Strumica, Tetovo, Bitola and Ohrid. Based on the evaluation of the previous training, organized in December 2025, the focus was placed on deepening skills related to specific aspects of police action, including:

  • Recognizing the specific needs of women who have experienced domestic violence and overcoming personal limitations when handling cases of this type;
  • Conducting risk assessment and applying the urgent protection measure “removal of the perpetrator from the home and prohibition of approaching the victim”;
  • Documenting criminal offences related to domestic violence, with a focus on psychological, economic and sexual violence.

The training was delivered by practitioners with extensive experience in handling cases of domestic violence and contributing to the development of the system of protection: Katina Pavlovska, clinical psychologist at ESE’s Counselling Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence; Cena Chalovska, former Police Adviser at the Ministry of Interior; and Gabriela Gajdova, Judge at the Court of Appeal in Skopje. суд Скопје.
