Training for police for improving their knowledge’s and skills for proceeding in domestic violence cases

In the period 21-23 December 2022,   Association ESE has organized training for police for improving their knowledge’s and skills for proceeding in domestic violence cases. Previously, upon established cooperation and send request by Association ESE, the Ministry of Interior has nominated 24 police representatives, including one police inspector and two uniform police officers from each of the 8 Sectors for Internal Affairs: Skopje, Veles, Kumanovo, Stip, Strumica, Tetovo, Bitola and Ohrid. The training was delivered by practitioners with extensive experience in proceeding in domestic violence cases: Katina Pavlovska, psychologist in ESE’s psychological counseling for women who suffered domestic violence; Cena Calovska, former police advisor in the Ministry of Interior; and Stojan Mihov, former criminal law judge.

In terms of the content, the training incorporated the following components: Nature and characteristics of domestic violence; Police proceeding in conducting risk assessment and execution of urgent and temporary measures of protection, in accordance with the new Law on Prevention and Protection against VAW and Domestic Violence; Police proceeding in the criminal procedure for committed criminal acts as a result of domestic violence, in accordance with the Criminal code. Each of the components included theoretical presentation and practical work for applying the knowledge gained.
