We are excited to share that the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2024 has been published, and North Macedonia is part of the global assessment! This index provides a comprehensive look at the rule of law across 142 countries, assessing multiple critical areas that reflect how the law is applied and its impact on citizens.

North Macedonia’s performance is evaluated in 8 key categories:

  1. Constraints on Government Powers: Measures checks on government power by the legislature, judiciary, and other institutions.
  2. Absence of Corruption: Examines corruption across the executive, judiciary, police, military, and legislature.
  3. Open Government: Reflects transparency, public access to information, civic participation, and mechanisms for public complaints.
  4. Fundamental Rights: Covers areas like non-discrimination, the right to life, due process, and freedoms of expression and association.
  5. Order and Security: Evaluates crime rates, civil conflict, and public safety.
  6. Regulatory Enforcement: Considers the effectiveness, impartiality, and timeliness of government regulations and enforcement.
  7. Civil Justice: Assesses the accessibility, affordability, impartiality, and effectiveness of the civil justice system.
  8. Criminal Justice: Focuses on the effectiveness, fairness, and corruption levels within the criminal justice system.
